"Beet" - pest management simulation for a sugar beet crop, Centre for Computer-based Learning (CBL) in Land Use and Environmental Sciences (CLUES), University of Aberdeen. "Beet" uses sugar beet as a case study to enable students to gain experience of the issues and risks involved in executing a strategy for pesticide management in crop production. It is presented as a game in which players manage a beet crop on 40 hectares and can be given a variety of objectives, from maximising profits to minimising the environmental effects of pestidice use.

This a very easy to use text to daignose plant damages. Where necessary it provides drawings or pictures. It is very well written and will help all interested in diagnosis but noz quite sure how to do it.

I recommend to go to "Full list of profiles" to explore this web site. Here you will find 28 profiles like "Mycorrhizas and their significance", "Biocontrol of pine root rot" or "fungal tip growth". In each profile you will find may pictures illustrating the text. The text is completed by recommended readings and external web sites. At the bottom of each page you will the list of profiles, so you can not get lost. This site also provides background information like in profile "airborne microorganisms" where air-sampling methods are described or in "Penicillin and other antibiotics" where you will find a list of clinically important antibiotics. The quality of text and photographs make "The Microbial World" a Tip in this section of PPIGB.

The document is divided into three main parts: (1) Plant Disease Epidemiology, (2) Spatial Aspects of Plant Diseases and (3) Plant Disease Management Strategies. The epidemiology part is with 17 chapters the biggest one. The Introduction is followed by chapters on monocyclic and polycyclic epidemics, mathematic models, inoculum production, disease progress, estimating model parameters or practical use of models.

This web site is intended to promote agricultural awareness and is designed as a virtual classroom. Read the "Welcome" message first, because here you will find some help. In the moment the classroom for Late Blight is available and soon the one for Durch Elm Disease. In the classroom you can select the Lecture Hall or Laboratory, but first move your mouse over the screen to see where you can find detailed information. There are microscopic pictures, slides, maps, a calculator (needed in the lab) and a dictionary. The lectures guide you through important steps to understand the disease and in the lab you will be introduced to important experiments. The site is very easy to navigate and explanations are included where appropriate.
